“It was Mary in her lowliness who first gave praise and adoration to the risen Christ.” — Saint Bridget of Sweden
Happy Easter! We thought about posting something earlier this week and then we thought, “What’s the rush?”
The reality of our digital world pressures us to post something relevant right on the day it’s relevant. We just wonder what that does to us as a society and as individuals.
As a religious community, our mission includes being present online but we think a lot about how to navigate our digital presence in a human way. We are not interested in being formed by an algorithm but by the rhythm of the Holy Spirit, active in our daily life. This approach gives us life and we pray it gives you life too.
During this time of hope in the resurrection, just as we might feel pressured to post immediately at the right times, you also might feel pressured to be somewhere you are not and to feel joyful in places where you are suffering. In the face of these kinds of pressures, we find solace in the reality that the theological virtue of hope is not dependent on our feelings matching the tenor of high feasts. Just as our lives do not always have to follow social media schedules, we also do not have to emotionally match liturgical rhythms in order to receive God’s grace.
So, we pray you are encouraged right where you are in your life. Even if the Lord’s presence is imperceivable, we pray you can know that he is breathing new life into you right where you need it. We prayed for this intention during our silent Triduum retreat, in our Divine Mercy Novena, and we will keep each of you and all your loved ones in our prayers during this Easter season. We are praying especially for those people who have left the Church or struggle to remain because they have been abused, wounded, or scandalized by members of the Church. If you would like to send us your name and the names of loved ones that you would like us to pray for, please know that is always welcome.
Thanks for this from someone experiencing discordance to the current liturgical season. Apt post.
I am so grateful to be on your list of prayers. Thank you for your prayers and courageous witness of Our Lord through His Mother, Mary.
