My perpetrator is/was a past regional superior too. Several years before my abuser there was a big scandal (Fr. Corapi), and my perpetrator was the superior in charge of handling the case. My husband and I were close to the order (actually still a society of apostolic life), so we know the bishop was the real driving force behind the discipline (which to this day remains mysterious).
Still, the irony is unbelievable. One would think Fr. Perpetrator would have learned a lesson. It’s just further testament to the culture of abuse, though. Even with a national scandal, it was assumed that getting caught was an aberration and nothing to worry about.
Ray Douglas, a catholic, talked about his journey through disclosing church abuse in the Catholic church. His testimony starts at about 23 minutes, and again talks about support for victims further on in the video, around 53 minutes and finally at about 1 hr:16 min. He may be worthwhile to contact, he is a fantastic speaker. Grace (Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment) on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWmrcRcDkzM
